On Saturday, I went with some
friends to Mindo, a small town in the cloud forests of Ecuador. In addition to
a wide array of fauna and flora, there are great activities like hiking, rafting,
biking, a butterfly farm, and ziplining. However, because of the weather and
the more relaxed nature of our outing, we only did the waterfall hike. It was
stunning to see the series of falls along the trail and the river in spite of
the lack of animals, and the cloud cover kept us (slightly) cooler. We tried to
go to the butterfly farm in the afternoon, but the weather and later hour had
sent most of the butterflies into cover. We did see at least four different
species of hummingbird though, which my Gram would have loved. After the
butterfly farm, we decided that the best way to end the day-trip was to go to a
coffee and chocolate farm that makes absolutely delicious brownies and homemade
ice-cream. It was a lovely treat at the end of the day.

This is for you, Gram! |
Everywhere I looked there were beautiful mountains surrounding Quito! I hope you're able to make it to all of them before the semester ends. Your trip to Mindo was yet another stunningly great way to spend a Saturday.
